The consumption of domestic hot water varies from family to family. Because we usually have more than one bathroom in the house, the average consumption of hot water per person per day increased from 30 to 60 liters. To avoid excessive usage it is best to choose an efficient heating system and moderate your hot water usage.

Propane gas is the perfect fuel to produce hot water with, while respecting the environment and your wallet. Here are some of the most interesting hot water systems running on propane gas:

Water flow heaters

With a flow-trough water heater, you will only use the propane heat when you turn on your water faucet. With this system, you will have to wait a little longer before there is hot water, but the big advantage is that you can consume an unlimited amout of hot water without wasting any energy.

Stock boilers

A stock boiler continuously maintains a certain amout of hot water at a temperature of 60°C. The hot water runst straight to the tap, and you can simultaineously consume hot water in different places in the house. However, the amout of hot water is limited and the system has less advantages than a flow-trough water heater because the water is heated when you are not putting it to use.

Gas condensing boiler

Like a conventional boiler, a condensing boiler burns propane to produce heat. The heat that is lost in conventional boilers, is recovered with a condensing boiler. The gas condensing boiler will heat the house, but will also produce hot water in the bathroom and kitchen. This system provides immediate hot water, and can store a supply of hot water. A condensing boiler is easy to install and is much more energy efficient than conventional boilers.

The solar water heater

A solar water heater is both ecologically and econommically friendly with a great comfort level. A solar water heater is a system that produces hot water using the heat from the sun. The boiler captures solar energy and heats water in a reservoir. A solar water heater produces about 30% of your annual energy consumption to produce hot water. When the sun does not shine, it does not produce hot water, therefore it is best to combine this alternative energy method with a propane gas installation.
